Overall, not a huge amount of work required, but the rough list includes:
- Remove all the cobwebs.
- Polish the windows (inside and out).
- Polish the brass hinges and shackles.
- Clean the light cover.
- Sweep clean the inside and outside metal work.
- Inspect for any blemishes in the paintwork that may need touching up.
- Remove any weeds.
- Remove the black back board so we can try to date the kiosk.
- Put the rear railings back in place and paint them black.
- Re-do any posters that need updating.
- Add the new advertiser's posters.
Should be finished 30 January, ready for the Brookwood Primary School exhibition.
Could you tellmehow much paint you used primer red white and black we are about to start restoring a box adopted by our town council and would be grateful for the benefit of your experience

ReplyDeleteA couple of litres of primer, 1 litre of white and about two litres of red. We bought a five litre tin of red, so have some spare.
The correct paint is quite expensive, but worth it.

Kevin, our parish council has adopted a K6 kiosk which we maintain. The light has stopped working and we want to remove the light cover however this uses security bolt fixings which I imagine normal socketry would not grip or otherwise ruin. Do you know what the correct tool is to remove these two screws or is there another way to remove them? Many thanks.

DeleteThe correct tool is a special tool issued to BT engineers. These are really hard to come by, and I've never managed to get one.
If I remember correctly we did use a 5mm socket, and had no problem removing the fixings.
The bulbs themselves are standard off the shelf products, which is good news.
